Electrical & Instrumentation Estimator

We are seeking an experienced, organized, and detail-oriented Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) Estimator to join our dynamic team. Reporting to the Estimating Manager, the E&I Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive electrical and instrumentation cost estimates for industrial construction, maintenance, and turnaround projects. This role requires strong analytical skills, specialized E&I knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.


Key Responsibilities

  1. Scope Analysis
    • Review electrical and instrumentation scopes of work, drawings, and specifications.
    • Collaborate with engineering, procurement, and construction teams to clarify scope details.
  2. E&I Cost Estimation
    • Prepare detailed quantity take-offs for cable, tray, conduit, terminations, instrumentation, and associated materials.
    • Use industry-standard estimating tools and software (e.g., Accubid) to prepare accurate, competitive estimates.
    • Develop labour, material, and equipment pricing for E&I scopes, including productivity assumptions.
  3. Execution Methodology
    • Develop E&I execution methodologies based on project specifications and scope.
    • Work with project managers, supervisors, and engineers to optimize installation methods.
  4. Risk Identification & Mitigation
    • Identify potential risks and uncertainties specific to E&I execution.
    • Develop mitigation strategies through scope clarification, alternative solutions, and contingency planning.
    • Analyze and assess relevant contractual clauses.
  5. Team Collaboration
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather necessary information and insights.
    • Coordinate and participate in the preparation of tender documents.
    • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment.

Requirements

  • Related post-secondary education, Journeyman Electrician ticket, or E&I construction background (Diploma / Degree / Trade Certification / Field Experience).
  • 5+ years of estimating experience focused on electrical and instrumentation scopes in an industrial setting.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical codes, instrumentation, and industrial installation practices.
  • Experience with boilers, fired heaters, and related fixed/rotating equipment is an asset.
  • Industrial job site experience is considered an asset.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
  • Experience with Accubid and Bluebeam is considered an asset.
  • Understanding and knowledge of scheduling is an asset.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Self-motivated, coachable, and a positive team contributor.

Working Conditions

  • Full-time position: 8 hours per day / 40 hours per week.
  • Based in Sherwood Park, AB.
  • Travel to various job sites across Western Canada as required.
